The New Nikon D300!
This isn’t anything new, but Nikon has announced the new Nikon D3 and the D300. This is revolutionary. Until now, I haven’t felt like Nikon was offering anything competitive with the Canon Mark III and the rest of the Canon line. Now, I think Canon finally has something to drool over.
These two cameras have several new features that are going to change how photographers take pictures. I am going to focus on the D300 because that is the one I have pre-ordered from Ritz Camera. (a.k.a. that is the one I could afford) The D3 is $5,000. Ouch!
Why do I want the D300? The one primary thing that makes this camera a buy for me is the higher ISO capabilities. Right now, with my D200, I really try to not go over 400 ISO. This makes shooting in low light like a reception somewhat difficult without a flash. I have seen some of the sample images from the D300 and it appears that the pictures at ISO 3200 are better than my pictures on my D200 at ISO 640. That is phenomenal. The D3 is even better.
The other three things that I am excited about is the better focusing, the two more megapixels (12.5 compared to 10 on the D200), and the better LCD image on the back of the camera. There are many other upgrades that are also awesome, but these are the four things that will help me the most.
